President Arif Alvi meets with OPay’s CEO Zhou Yahui in Islamabad

On the afternoon of February 14, President Arif Alvi held a meeting with OPay CEO Zhou Yahui at the Presidential Residence in Islamabad. The two sides exchanged ideas on a range of issues related to the development of the digital economy in Pakistan, including the use of OPay’s Fintech technology to help Pakistan achieve its “de-cashization” goals and the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy.

President Alvi expressed his admiration for OPay’s achievements and emphasised the need to promote the development of digital finance in Pakistan. He also highlighted the potential security risks associated with digital financial development and urged OPay to leverage its advanced technology and experience to mitigate those risks. CEO Zhou Yahui praised Pakistan’s Fintech market and said, “During the course of business development, we discovered that Pakistan’s Fintech market has huge potential. Fintech technology is brought to Pakistan to contribute to the development of Pakistan’s digital economy and inclusive finance.”

OPay has achieved impressive growth in emerging markets, including Pakistan, Nigeria, and Egypt, over the past five years. Its use of innovative technology such as artificial intelligence and big data has enabled it to become one of the largest financial technology companies in Africa and the Middle East. CEO Zhou Yahui believes that digital banks will soon emerge in Pakistan, requiring the support of cutting-edge technology such as AI to ensure quick and accurate evaluation and transaction of digital assets such as digital finance, deposit and withdrawal, and personal credit rating.

The meeting between President Arif Alvi and CEO Zhou Yahui underscores the growing interest in the development of Pakistan’s digital economy and the potential role of Fintech companies in supporting this development.
