Three suspects gunned down in Korangi ‘encounter’
KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were shot dead in an alleged encounter in Korangi on Monday evening, police and rescue services said.
They said that the alleged exchange of gunfire between bandits and police took place near in Korangi 2 ½.
Korangi SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai told Dawn that the three suspects had snatched cell phones and cash from some passers-by and were fleeing on a motorbike when policemen patrolling on motorbike challenged them.
He said that the suspects opened fire at police and in retaliatory fire they suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot.
The SSP said that four robbery victims including a policeman had approached the police and recorded their statements.
The SSP said two pistols and eight snatched cell phone and cash were recovered from their custody.
The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for their post-mortem examination. Their identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.
Man kills cousin over trivial dispute
A man was killed allegedly by his relative over a trivial issue in the Kalri area of Lyari on Monday, according to police.
They said that Zahid Ali, 45, was stabbed to deah near Joona Masjid, Lyari.
Area SHO Asadullah Agha said that a scuffle between cousins over water connection led to the incident. The suspect managed to escape from the scene. The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfill legal formalities.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and police jointly carried out an intelligence-based action in Orangi Town and arrested a suspect, Usman Ghani alias Baloch, allegedly involved in several robberies.
During interrogation, the suspect ‘confessed’ to have killed a man upon resistance in SITE in January.
The suspect along with his accomplices had snatched over 80 cell phones during over 50 robberies in Orangi Town, SITE and adjoining localities.
