DISTRACTING BILLBOARDS

DISTRACTING BILLBOARDS: A few years ago, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) had banned the installation of all kinds of billboards in Karachi, and had ordered the immediate removal of the ones that were there already. The decision was implemented and the city became safe, clean and pleasing to the eyes. Lately, billboards have started to re-appear, especially on pedestrian bridges, building rooftops and the sidewalls of high-rise structures. The SCP should take notice of the matter.

COUNTERTERRORISM: The recent wave of terrorism in the country has exposed the lack of capacity of the country’s counterterrorism effort. We need to review and devise a comprehensive strategy, and train and strengthen our counterterrorism force. The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) should be provided advanced technology to eradicate terrorists and their hideouts.

TARGETING SUBJECT: Targeting a particular subject in the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination is an irrational approach by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). For instance, in CSS exam last year, a candidate who scored 144 marks in Political Science got only 18 marks in Pakistan Affairs, and, out of those 18 marks, 14 were in multiple-choice questions (MCQs). It shows that the targeted subject was Pakistan Affairs last year. This irrational policy spoils the hard-work of candidates, affecting their mental health.

DIVORCE RATES: Television dramas have always been a powerful medium having an impact on society. It is a sickening trend in storylines that these days show marriages breaking apart and ending in divorces. No wonder the rate of divorce in society has increased alarmingly. Writers and producers can surely come up with better ideas and storylines.
