PTI activist remanded to police for rioting

PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court here on Thursday remanded an activist of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, arrested for rioting and trespassing on Peshawar Central Prison, to the custody of police for a single day.

The court directed the police to again produce the suspect Jalal Mohmand today (Friday).

The suspect along with some other PTI activists has been charged with rioting and trespassing on the premises of the Peshawar Central Prison during the party’s announced ‘court arrest movement’ on Feb 23.

The FIR of the occurrence was registered at East Cantt police station on Feb 24 on the complaint of the prison’s superintendent Maqsoodur Rehman under section 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 447 (criminal trespassing) of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The complainant stated that some PTI workers staged mass protest in front of Gate No. 1 of the prison and some of the protesters even crossed the fence along the road side and also incited others to do the same.
