Efforts on to revamp CTD: police chief

LAKKI MARWAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan said on Saturday that provision of modern weapons to police proved helpful to improve law and order and tackle the menace of terrorism effectively.

Speaking at a darbar in Bannu city, he said that efforts were afoot to revamp counter-terrorism department in the province. He said that in the recent months, police clamped down on militants as a result incidents of terrorism declined.

He announced establishment of a counter-terrorism finance unit (CTFU) in Bannu division. He said that modern weapons were provided to police stations and posts in remote areas.

Regional Police Officer Syed Ashfaq Anwar, Bannu DPO Ziauddin Ahmed and Lakki Marwat DPO Mohammad Ashfaq Khan were also present on the occasion. A police contingent presented a guard of honour when IGP reached the police lines.

Besides laying a flower wreath on the monument of martyrs and offering prayers for the deceased cops, the IGP also planted a sapling in police lines to inaugurate spring plantation drive.

He listened to the problems of police officials and ordered relevant authorities to resolve the same. He said that in Bannu region, policemen set examples of bravery and fought terrorists.

CONTEST: The education department with support of Boy Scouts Association organised a declamation contest at Government Shaheed Mohammad Ghasan Khan Centennial Model High School No.1 in Lakki city on Saturday to mark the golden jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan.

In grade I to VIII category, Asifullah of Government High School No.2 Lakki and Mohammad Umar of Government Shaheed Mohammad Ghasan Khan Centennial Model High School No.1 Lakki stood first in Urdu and English language debate competition, respectively.

Mohammad Afaqa Jamil of Government Shaheed Mohammad Ghasan Khan Centennial Model High School No.1 won the Urdu language competition in grade 9 to 12 category.

In the same category, Mohammad Adnan of the same school also secured first position in English speech contest.
