RELIGIOUS PLURALITY

RELIGIOUS PLURALITY: During my recent trip to India and while crossing the Wagah-Atari border, it was a very disheartening sight to see numerous poor Hindu families migrating to India for want of protection of life and property, respect and opportunities. We in the land of the pure claim many deeds, but the reality is different. I appeal to the federal government to address this problem which deprives us of religious plurality and also brings a bad name to the country.

AN EXCEPTION: We recently saw activists of the main opposition party courting arrests and storming a court with sticks in their hands during a scheduled appearance of their leader. Many wonder why the leader and his followers are being treated in a manner that is certainly not a routine affair in the country. Is there any justifiable reason for making such an exception? The Constitution guarantees equal rights to all. Any exception to that rule is nothing but a violation of the country’s Constitution.

A FAILED TACTIC: The political opposition in the country recently asked its leaders, workers and ‘the people of Pakistan’ to court arrest voluntarily. Some did. But then the party started seeking their release. This is really a non-serious attitude which was anything but political. What the country needs is a strong opposition with political maturity.

NOT THEIR JOB: The standard of education in government schools is not a hidden secret. Everyone knows that one of the critical reasons is the lack of respect the government accords to the teachers. They are forced to carry out duties beyond the ambit of their profession; like in census, flood surveys, elections, etc. This naturally affects the academic environment. The practice needs to stop immediately.
