Alumni to celebrate golden jubilee of Sindh Medical college

KARACHI: The Sindh Medical College (SMC) Pioneers Association on Friday announced two-day golden jubilee celebrations of their college, which was established on April 9, 1973, from Saturday (today).

Speaking at a press conference, SMC Pioneers Association’s President Dr Mohsin Haidry talked about the crucial role of the Pakistan Medical Association in the establishment of the college, which has now turned into a fully fledged university.

He said that then PMA president Dr Khawaja Moinuddin was appointed as the first project director and then the first principal of the college.

About the foundation of the SMC Pioneers Association, he said that it was the brainchild of the graduates of the first batch of the SMC, who started this in Houston in March 2007 as they decided that it was time to give back to the motherland and the mother institute.

Dr Haidry said the association was involved in charity work including basic health units for primary healthcare, vaccination programmes, limb prosthesis, drinking water projects, scholarship programmes for underprivileged students, education support for orphans, utility stores for basic food programmes and calamities.

Association’s chairman Dr Viquar Qureshi, PMA president Dr Altaf Hussain Khatri and Dr Qaisar Sajjad also spoke.
