Man kills wife; accident claims life in Swabi

SWABI: A man allegedly killed his wife over some petty issue, while one person died when an over-speeding vehicle overturned on the motorway here on Friday, rescue and police officials said.

Sher Ali of Kalu Khan area, the father of deceased woman, told the police his daughter and her husband, Wasif Shah, had an argument over some issue, after which Wasif opened fire, killing her on the spot.

The Kalu Khan police registered an FIR and started making efforts to arrest the alleged killer.

Meanwhile, a vehicle carrying milk overturned on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange, critically injuring its driver, Rescue 1122 officials said. They added a team shifted the injured to Mardan Medical Complex, where he succumbed to injuries. The deceased was identified as Amir Nawaz Khan, 47, of Takhtbhai, Mardan.

Also, an employee of a filling station suffered burns when a fire broke out due to electric short-circuit in Hamza Dher village, rescue officials said.

LAID TO REST: Noted tabla and sitar player Wahab Gul Ustad, 75, who had passed away after protracted illness on Thursday, was laid to rest in his ancestral Maneri Payyan village here on Friday.

He left behind two sons and a widow to mourn his death.

He statred playing tabla and sitar at teenage and soon rose to fame.

Wahab Gul was suffering from serious throat ailment, and hadn’t been able to speak for last few years.

According to his sons, the doctors said the disease had affected his vocal cords badly, which culminated into his death. The long-haired Wahab Gul had trained many people as tabla and sitar players, earning the name of ustad (master).

He used to feature in different music programmes of Pakistan Television, Peshawar centre.

Prof Nooral Amin Yousafzai, a known literary figure and writer, said Wahab Gul was a matchless tabla and sitar player and his contribution to the Pashto music was remarkable.
