Fake drugs seized in Peshawar raid

PESHAWAR: The health department seized fake drugs from a house in Gulberg area of Peshawar Cantonment on Sunday.

Drug inspectors deputed by the Directorate General of Drug Control and Pharmacy raided a house owned by Mohammad Niaz Qureshi and recovered a printing machine, labels, loosely-packed fake drugs worth Rs6 million, empty bottles and cartons, according to a press release.

Drugs, including antibiotic, analgesics, stomach, vitamins, surgical disposables, steroid etc. were seized during the raid, officials said.

The drugs were sent for analysis to the drug testing laboratory, they said, adding one person had been booked under Drug Act, 1976.

Meanwhile, a statement said the crackdown was launched on the directives of deputy commissioner Shah Fahad to ensure supply of quality and genuine medicines to the market and prevent sale of smuggled, unregistered and counterfeit pharmaceutical products.
