Rs460m released for raising height of Lakki dam, claims ex-MNA

LAKKI MARWAT: The federal government has released Rs460 million for speedy completion of the Baran dam’s upraising project, claims former MNA Humayun Saifullah Khan.

Talking to a group of elders here on Sunday, he said he along with his brother, Anwar Saifullah Khan had met federal minister for water resources Khursheed Ahmed Shah to discuss the delay in completion of the dam’s upraising and rehabilitation of Marwat canal.

He said on their request the minister ordered release of Rs460 million for the project. He said raising the height of water reservoir built in 1961 would help enhance its storage capacity, thus promoting agriculture sector in Lakki Marwat and Bannu.

Mr Saifullah said rehabilitation of Marwat canal was also part of the project.

SCHOOLS: Naurang tehsil council chairman Haji Azizullah Khan has announced to set up schools for orphans and the differently-abled children in the town.

“The tehsil government is in contact with non-governmental organisations to establish the schools and provide basic facilities to educational institutions in the area,” he said while speaking at a parents day function in a private school on Sunday.

Mr Azizullah distributed trophies among the students, who grabbed positions in the annual examinations and excelled in co-curricular activities.

He said getting education was the fundamental right of children and they should not be deprived of it. He promised arranging stipends and scholarships for orphan and poor students.

INJURED: Two Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) workers were injured when villagers attacked them in Mughalkhel area of Bannu on Sunday.

A Pesco official said a team had gone to Ghoriwala area to disconnect illegal connections and ensure recovery of dues when power defaulters refused to clear their arrears. He said villagers came out of their houses and attacked Pesco officials when announcements were made from a mosque loudspeaker. He said the attack left line superintendent Umar Khitab Khan and Wasey Shah injured.

He said the attackers also snatched Rs300,000, mobile phones and safety gadgets from Pesco men.

The official said the wounded employees were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

TWO KILLED: Two people were killed in separate incidents in Lakki Marwat on Sunday, a rescue official said.

He said a minor girl was electrocuted and another was injured in Gulwaliabad locality of Lakki city when they touched a live power line. The deceased was identified as Hifsa.

Separately, a boy identified as Hamza, 12, was shot dead in Adamzai area of Tajori. The deceased belonged to Daggar Kallay area.
