Youth commits suicide; man stabbed to death in Kohat
KOHAT: A youth committed suicide in Shahpur union council, while a young man was brutally killed with repeated dagger strikes in Jawaki Banda area here on Monday, the police said.
An official of Saddar police told Dawn that a youth, namely Rehman, shot himself dead in Laal Garhi area of Shahpur. They said the body was moved to the KDA Teaching Hospital, where doctors said a shot in the head caused his immediate death. The police registered a case.
Meanwhile, the cantonment police said a man identified as Nasrullah, 28, was killed with repeated strikes of dagger by his friend, namely Musarrat, after a brawl over some dispute in Jawaki Banda area.
The police said the accused had been arrested.
The body was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. Later, it was handed over to relatives.
SEALED: Teams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority destroyed 2,000 kilograms of substandard ice cream produced in a factory located in the Ublan refugee camp, sealed two hotels for not maintaining hygiene, besides disposing of expired cooking oil seized from a shop during a pre-Ramazan operation on Monday.
The owners of ice factory and hotels were fined Rs30,000 and Rs25,000.
The action was taken on the orders of the authority’s deputy director Asad Qasim.
The authority’s teams were accompanied by police and staff of the Water Supply and Sanitation Company.
The officials checked the authenticity of food items through a mobile laboratory.
Mr Qasim said adulteration won’t be tolerated and the inspections would continue during Ramazan.
Meanwhile, Kohat additional deputy commissioner Reena Suharwardi, while chairing a meeting of assistant commissioners, additional assistant commissioners and other staff, asked them to keep a strict check on profiteering and ensure availability of all food items to consumers at government rates during Ramazan.
PASSES AWAY: Senior journalist and executive member of Kohat Press Club, Yaseen Awan died of cardiac arrest here on Monday. He was 52.
The deceased left behind five children and two wives to mourn his death.
He was laid to rest at the Sawa Lakh graveyard.
