Over 52,500 cases pending before SC

KARACHI: Over 52,500 cases are pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it emerged on Thursday.

According to the latest fortnightly report of the apex court, 758 cases were decided from March 1 to March 15, whereas 730 new cases were filed during the same period and the total pending cases stood at 52,541.

On March 1, the pendency was at 52,569 and the principal seat of the country’s top court in Islamabad had decided all 758 cases in two weeks, whereas no case was disposed of at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta registries during this period, the report said.

The Supreme Court is currently functioning with 15 judges against the sanctioned strength of 17 judges.
