Police personnel told to stay at workplaces during off duty hours

ISLAMABAD: All in-charges and staff deployed at police stations across the federal capital have been asked to stay on the premises of their respective police stations during off duty hours despite the fact that there are no lodging facilities in these buildings.

Similar directives were also issued to the staff and in-charges of Rescue-15, investigation wing, Criminal Intelligence Agency (CIA), Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) operations and the Eagle Squad.

Officers of the capital police told Dawn that the SHOs were directed to remain in the limits of their respective police stations and sleep at the police stations at night instead of going to their private or official residences.

The SHOs were further asked not to leave their respective limits in any case. Permission should be taken from the deputy inspector general of police operations before leaving their respective jurisdiction only in case of an emergency or to deal with important matters.

SHOs directed to get biometric machines from police lines, install them at police stations

After performing duty, other personnel should return to the police station where they are deployed. They will also rest and sleep inside the police stations during off duty hours.

The SHOs were also asked to get biometric machine from the Police Lines Headquarters as soon as possible and install it at the police stations. The machine should be installed in the range of the Safe City CCTVs installed the police stations for 24 hours monitoring.

Same orders were also issued for officials from the rank of constable to inspector deployed at the CTD operations, CIA, Investigation, Rescue-15 and Eagle Squad.

The SHOs and in-charges of other units have been further instructed to brief their subordinates besides making sure their presence in their respective limits during duty hours and on the premises where they are deployed during their off duty hours.

In this regard, the attendance of the SHOs and in-charges will be marked through wireless communication at 7pm, the officers added.

There are 25 police stations across the capital, including women police stations, out of which the police stations of Kirpa and Phulgran have no buildings of their own and are operational at the Koral and Bhara Kahu police stations.

Likewise, there is no proper lodging facility available at the Loi Bher, Kirpa, Nilore, Khanna, Shams Colony, Sangjani, Banigala and Phulgran police stations.

Proper lodging facility is also not available for Rescue-15 and Eagle Squad personnel, they added.

The CIA office is set up in a factory while Banigala, Loi Bher and Khanna police stations have no proper structures. Moreover, the Golra police station is operational in an old structure while Shams Colony police station is set up in a rented building.
