Court takes notice of jirga
SUKKUR: The Jacobabad district and sessions court on Monday took notice of the ‘grand jirga’, held a day earlier, that imposed a fine of Rs2 million each on two policemen for killing two suspects in an alleged encounter and ordered them to pay another Rs1 million to the bereaved families as cost of litigation. The encounter had taken place on May 22, 2021.
Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kalhoro issued a notice to Jacobabad SSP Dr Sumair Noor Channa asking him to appear in the court on April 6 and submit his report about the jirga.
The jirga was presided over by Sardarzada Mir Changez Khan Panhwar along with Mir Sabir Hussain Jakhrani. Others notables who attended and contributed to the ruling included Mir Ashique Hussain Brohi, Mir Fahad Khan Panhwar and Abdul Rasheed Korejo.
The two policemen convicted by the jirga were Dilawar Hussain Sabhayo and Mohammad Ali Brohi.
They were declared guilty of killing Bakhtiar Jakhrani and Mohammad Sher Jakhrani in the alleged encounter at Trikundi Chowk, Jacobabad.
