LHC seeks reply on more cases against Gill

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought reports from the federal and the Punjab governments about the cases registered against PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

Earlier, Gill’s counsel contended that the court had last week allowed the petitioner to visit abroad for four weeks. However, he said, the petitioner faced harassment at the hands of the FIA officials when he went to the Lahore airport to board a reserved flight.

He said the officials at the airport told the petitioner that five more cases had been registered against him.

The counsel asked the court to summon details of the cases supposedly registered against the petitioner as he had no knowledge about them.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh adjourned the hearing till Thursday (today) and directed the respondents to submit a report on the cases against the petitioner.

A full bench had provisionally allowed Gill to go to the United States for four weeks as his name had been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Through a counsel, Gill pleaded that he had been implicated in multiple ‘baseless’ cases at the behest of the federal government. He said the Federal Investigation Agency on the instructions of the interior ministry had placed him on the ECL.
