LAHORE: Aiming to address the equity gap in women’s higher education leadership, the three-month-long first Women Leadership Programme in connection with the Women Empowerment through Women Involvement in Learning and Leadership of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) concluded at the city campus on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that female strength has increased by 50 percent in the faculty and administration of the UVAS in the last two decades, and they have equal rights and perform their duties with full of dedication.

He said such women leadership programmes are necessary to arrange continuously in a year for enhancing leadership, financial management, administration, and governance skills in women.

Earlier, Prof Dr Hafsa Zaneb spoke about various inquiry (awareness, research-based, networking) projects submitted by UVAS female faculty members related to empowering women by making their needs count, awareness about workplace ethics, attitudes, and practices among female students in universities; raising awareness about the importance of women in a leading academic position in higher education in Pakistan; stress management at the workplace; the challenges of the woman in a leadership position in universities; a qualitative assessment of the challenges faced by Pakistan female leaders; the UVAS women’s book club; and networking and capacity building among female administrative staff.

During the women’s leadership programme, experts from national and international institutions delivered lectures on leadership, governance, gender issues in academia, equity, sexual harassment, networking, career trajectories, and financial management to participants.

UET: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) organised an engineering education counseling event “Open Day” on Thursday.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar inaugurated the event which provided information to the visitors regarding undergraduate programmes under seven faculties at UET main and sub-campuses, eligibility criteria, admission procedure, scholarships and fee concession.

The visitors were also informed about the course labs, national research labs, undergraduate research and other academic facilities and opportunities available at the university.

Dr Sarwar visited the information desks set up by various teaching and non-teaching departments of the university.

Around three-thousand potential candidates along with their parents attended the event physically and online.

Students showed keen interest in knowing the last year merit of different engineering disciplines.

Admission office, Financial Aid and Career Services Office, Alumni Office, Career Counseling Office and others also provided information about their respective fields to students and their parents through brochures, banners, videos and one-on-one sessions.
