GUJRAT: Wheat harvesting and distribution of gunny bags have been kicked off as procurement of at least 19,800 metric tonnes of wheat is targeted in Gujrat district.
A ceremony in this regard was organised by the agricultural department in Pero Shah village, some 25 kilometres from the city, on Saturday.
Gujrat DC Safdar Hussain Virk was the chief guest whereas Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Khizar Hayat Bhatti, Assistant Commissioner Haider Abbas and officials of agriculture and food departments were also present on the occasion.
The DC distributed gunny bags among farmers whereas the wheat harvesting was launched with a thresher as well as manually in a farm.
The DC said five wheat procurement centres had been established in the various parts of the district such as Mungowal, Jalalpur Jattan, Dinga, Lalamusa and Kunjah where facilities had been provided for farmers.
He directed the officials concerned to continue a strict operation against the sale of fertiliser at exorbitant prices and fake pesticides in the market to provide a better opportunity to the farmers.
