KOHAT: A motorcyclist opened fire on a passenger coach killing a prisoner and injuring a policeman in Shakardarra area here on Wednesday, an official said.

The police were taking him to local courts for hearing into a case.

Shakardarra SHO Javed Khan said the deceased, Sabir Shah, had married the wife of one Asif with the woman also taking her son with her. He said a case had been registered a month ago on the complaint of Asif, and a hunt was launched to arrest Sabir.

The SHO said Sabir was arrested a few days ago.

He said Assistant Sub-Inspector Hameedullah was bringing him to the Kohat courts for hearing into the case in a passenger coach, when Asif riding a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle. He said Sabir died on the spot and the ASI was injured. He said the injured was taken to KDA hospital.

The SHO said SP investigations Mir Faraz had constituted a team for arrest of the accused, who escaped after the incident.

TRANSFERS: Adviser for primary and secondary education in the caretaker government, Rehmat Salam Khattak, has canceled the transfer orders of a teacher and two Class-IV employees, who were sent to Kohat from Peshawar and Karak, city mayor Qari Sher Zaman claimed on Wednesday.

He told Dawn that he had contacted the education adviser on phone and expressed concern over his decision to appoint outsiders in the Kohat education department.

The city mayor said as soon as he got the report of ‘illegal’ transfers he also sought a report from the district education officer. Then, he said he went to the education directorate in Peshawar and got the transfer orders revoked.

Mr Zaman said he had demanded complete data of employees transferred to Kohat from other districts.

“I raised the issue of ‘illegal’ transfers with the education adviser after the matter was highlighted on social media,” the mayor said.

FARES: Deputy commissioner Azmatullah Wazir has said he has directed the traffic police to regularly visit the bus stands and take action against the public transporters for overcharging passengers travelling to their homes on Eid.

Talking to journalists on Wednesday, he said he had asked traffic police to check fares of local, inter-district and inter-provincial transport.
