Pakistan embassy hit by gunfire

KARACHI: The Pakistan embassy in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, was hit by gunfire amid clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.

According to a tweet from the embassy’s official Twitter account, the Chancery building was hit by three bullets. “This is a blatant violation of the Vienna Convention as the host government is responsible for providing security to diplomatic missions. We urge the two parties to exercise constraint and request the government of Sudan to immediately deploy security personnel for the protection and security of embassy of Pakistan,” the embassy tweeted.

It advised all Pakistanis to stay at home and avoid going out unnecessarily due to the deteriorating security situation.

In a subsequent tweet, the embassy noted that everyone is safe “after a few bullets grazed the embassy wall this afternoon. We remain committed to serving the Pakistani community in Sudan.”

However, there was no official word from the Foreign Office in Islamabad.
