FOOD WASTAGE

FOOD WASTAGE: All through the month of Ramazan every year, most restaurants offer Sehri and Iftar-cum-dinner buffet at prices of their own liking and with a vast variety of food on offer. This results in perpetually increasing the number of dishes due to competition. Not a single person, no matter how hungry or gluttonous, can ever eat all the dishes on offer. This means that a large amount of food ends up as waste, which is highly condemnable. This is something that needs to be stopped immediately. It can be done by having suitable legislation and then executing it on the ground with effective monitoring. The number of dishes, for instance, can be limited to something more reasonable.

PATIENTS’ RIGHT: The patients’ right to privacy and data confidentiality is being consistently violated at the Khyber Teaching Hospital where doctors examine patients in front of others and ask them about the details rather openly. Similarly, technicians take X-rays of female patients in the presence of male patients, which is unethical. Furthermore, officials of the hospital administration do not speak with professional courtesy with the public. In fact, they try to be as harsh as they possibly can. The management must ensure that medical ethics related to patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality are practised in the hospital. It should also train its staff to behave politely and professionally.

A DUSTY AFFAIR: Since the collapse of the main bridge connecting Hub city with Karachi, commuters have been struggling to get across the river to continue with their daily routines. For instance, the dust road, which has been ‘constructed’ recently, is not meant for heavy traffic, but such traffic continues to move without any hurdle. This has turned the dusty road into a bumpy ride. The authorities concerned should maintain the road till a new bridge is constructed.
