From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1973: Fifty Years Ago: Ahmadis in AJK

MIRPUR: The Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly today [April 29] adopted a resolution declaring Ahmadis a non-Muslim minority and banned the propagation of Ahmadiat in Azad Kashmir, according to an official handout of the Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Moved by Maj Mohammad Ayub and passed unanimously, the resolution provided that the Ahmadis be registered and should get representation in various walks of life on the basis of their being a non-Muslim minority. — News agencies

[Meanwhile,as reported by Our Staff Correspondent in Peshawar,] A 13-member Cabinet headed by Sardar Inayatullah Khan Gandapur was sworn in here this morning [April 29] but not before last minute changes were made. Governor Aslam Khattak took the oath at a simple ceremony attended by the coalition party MPAs and officials of the provincial Government.

Chief Minister Gandapur later said further expansion of the Cabinet is possible and the portfolios will be announced at the earliest. The cabinet includes seven ministers from the United Front, four from the PML and two from the PPP. Only Peshawar district is not represented, while the number of Ministers from Hazara district total six.
