Former navy man gunned down in Cattle Colony

KARACHI: A former employee of Pakistan Navy was gunned down in Cattle Colony off the National Highway, police said on Tuesday.

The Shah Latif Town police said Mohammed Afzal, 50, was retired from the navy and nowadays worked with a textile mill.

Shah Latif police SHO Mohammed Mithal said that he was going to the mill on a motorcycle late on Monday night when unknown assailants intercepted him near Jogi Mor and fired him before speeding away. They did not take away anything from him, he said.

He originally hailed from Jehlum and lived here in Cattle Colony. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. The police suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive for the murder.

Man shot dead in Lyari

A man was shot dead in the Lyari area on Tuesday morning, police said.

They said that Basheer Saleem, 40, was killed by unknown assailants outside his home in Sabir Tar Gali within the remit of the Kalakot police station at around 4.30am. The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The police said that he was killed over some personal enmity.

Area SHO Imtiaz Mirjat said he was arrested in the past for allegedly possessing drugs and an unlicensed pistol.
