Internet shutdown has cost Pakistan over $53 million in one day

Netblocks, an organisation that tracks internet outages across the world, estimates that Pakistan loses over $53 million or Rs9 billion (according to Nov 2021 exchange rate) due to restricted services, data outage and partial application shutdowns in a single day.

Mobile broadband services have been suspended across Pakistan, besides a ban on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, following PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest on Tuesday.

The outages have caused severe disruptions in IT services, ranging from banking operations to routine workflows.
