From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1948: Seventy-five years ago: Impassioned appeal

LAHORE: Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, Supreme Head of the Azad Kashmir Liberation Movement today [May 11] made an impassioned appeal to the people of Pakistan and the people at the helm of affairs to shed their complacency and realise fully the gravity of the Kashmir situation.

“The zero hour for the final destiny of Kashmir, and for that reason of Pakistan,” he said, “is fast approaching. Let us be up and doing something today so that we may not rue the day afterwards. Let us not follow the ostrich tactics.”

Speaking in grim tones, grey haired, prison battered Ghulam Abbas in an interview with the API in Lahore today repeated with redoubled force his conviction that with Kashmir was eternally integrated the destiny of Pakistan and if this vital limb was amputated the body also may fall to dust. I have come to remind the people of Pakistan,” the Kashmir leader said, “that there is yet time, though very limited, for you to shake off your inertia and indifference and wake up to the dark and grim realities around you which are growing in dimension and intensity every day.
