Reflection: Finding comfort in memories
Amother’s love is a force to be reckoned with — a boundless wellspring of warmth, compassion, and selflessness that knows no bounds. It’s a love that is full of patience and strength; it is strong and enduring.
A mother’s love is a constant presence in our lives, a source of guidance and support that never fades. Her love is the foundation upon which we build our lives, the light that guides us through the darkest of times. In her embrace, we find comfort, security, and a sense of belonging that no other love can match. Truly, a mother’s love is one of the most powerful forces in the universe — a force that shapes and inspires us, and enriches our lives in ways beyond measure.
However, for individuals who do not have their mother in their lives due to any reason, can relate with what I am going to share here. It is a loss that cannot be fully described in words, a void that nothing else can fill.
Even though it has been years since I lost my mother when I was very young, her absence still lingers in my life. Every day, in everything that I do, I feel her absence. It’s the little things that trigger memories and emotions, like the glass bangles she always wore, her favourite food, her favourite song, or when I see the sight of a mother and child sharing a loving and beautiful moment together.
It’s a feeling that’s hard to explain, but it’s always there, like a constant ache in my heart. Despite the passage of time, I miss my mother more than words can express.
When I see youngsters talking with their mothers, I am often overcome with a mix of emotions. I feel how blessed they are to have such an incredible person in their lives, who they can rely on for comfort, guidance, and love. However, on the other hand, I also notice that the children often take this precious relationship for granted. They don’t fully realise the depth and value of the bond they share with their mums.
As someone who doesn’t have this kind of relationship anymore, I see many more things than they do. I see the little moments of laughter and tears, and the unspoken understanding that exists between them. I see how priceless this connection is, and how much it is worth cherishing every single day.
And if you haven’t realised your bond yet, let me give you an example, it’s a blessing to have your mum by your side when you go out shopping, or are laughing and chatting. And if you are a boy, have you noticed, when you and your mum have a casual conversation about your friends in school, college and the life there; when she gives you insight on specific things and cherishes your happy moments.
These are just a couple of examples, but the day is full of such amazing moments, which illustrate how much love and understanding exists between a mother and her child.
There is no doubt that a mother always wants to see her children perfect in all walks of life but she holds her pain when she witnesses her children stumble, fall and fight their own battles. She wants to be there to fight for them, but she stops herself, for she wants to make sure that her children are strong enough to fight for themselves. She knows they have life ahead of them when she may not be there, but her teachings will be a guide for them.
Coming back to those who are missing out such a loving relation from their lives, remember that while your mother may no longer be with you physically, her memory and the love she gave you will always be with you.
So, dear children, remember that there are some relations in life that are more precious than any treasure in the world. You must recognise their existence in your life by cherishing each moment every single day.
