Zakir given role in Special Projects

LAHORE: Zakir Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Board director international cricket, has retired but he will continue his association with the PCB in Special Projects, it was learnt on Monday.

Similarly Faisal Hasnain, who joined the PCB as chief executive during Ramiz Raja’s tenure in place of Wasim Khan, has been made head of the Special Projects.

The post Faisal worked for was abolished after the implementation of the 2014 PCB constitution on Dec 21, 2022 as this position is not mentioned in the 2014 constitution. He was appointed under the 2019 PCB constitution. But instead of releasing Faisal, the PCB has given him a new role. Surprisingly, however, his new designation was determined last Friday; so, in what capacity he had been working since Dec 21, 2022 until Friday remains a question.

The 60-year-old Zakir, who had been heading PCB’s international cricket department since 2008, retired on April 30 but was given one-month extension due to the home series against New Zealand.

Now his contract has been extended without any designation in the Special Projects Department.

Usman Wahla, who was the head of Pakistan Super League, has replaced Zakir as the new head. Naila Bhatti will work as PSL commissioner.
