JUDICIARY: The judges of higher judiciary enjoy huge pension and other fringe benefits that are paid out of the taxpayers’ money. These benefits are given to them as a token of appreciation for their services to the judiciary and to the country. However, if a retired judge chooses to indulge in active politics, I strongly believe that all retirement benefits should be withdrawn. The judiciary is supposed to be independent of any political influence or bias. It is important that judges of higher judiciary maintain their distance from politics. The authorities concerned should take note of the issue and initiate appropriate action to ensure that the benefits given to retired judges are not misused.

GAS SUPPLY: Loadshedding of natural gas has become a major problem in many areas of Sindh. People are already unable to buy most edible items from the market due to increasing prices, and now they are unable to even cook basic food for themselves due to gas loadshedding. The authorities concerned must look into the matter.

METER RENT: My current bill for natural gas shows the meter rent as Rs500, which earlier used to be Rs40 per month; an increase of Rs460 per month. This is despite the increased gas loadshedding. This hike in meter rent is unjustified and indefensible. Can the authority concerned look into the matter and remove these charges immediately?

BRAIN DRAIN: Thousands of Pakistanis are leaving for jobs abroad while the country’s economy is gradually sinking. Pakistan is ranked third n the list of countries where doctors are trained locally, but work in any member country of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The government needs to realise the gravity of the issue.
