KEEPING PACE
KEEPING PACE: Our education system is not job-oriented as it contains more theoretical knowledge than practical. It needs to be revised and brought in line with today’s requirements. The current education system is merely a continuation of the Western education concepts introduced during the colonial era. Educational institutions should give new directions to the system so that the students may get updated knowledge.

LAGGING BEHIND: The world seems to have outpaced Pakistan in every field, including the critical domain of digital transformation. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the new norm that has led to the creation of easy-to-learn platforms for one and all. Pakistan appears to be lagging behind in this regard. There is a need to initiate AI training and education programmes so that we may jump onto the bandwagon.

COMMENDABLE DECISION: The recent decision taken by Sindh government to outsource matriculation and intermediate annual examinations is no doubt a commendable step in the right direction. It will help us purge the infested education system, and make life difficult for those who secure good grades by greasing the palms of mafias. The decision, once implemented properly, will help students work hard to excel in exams.

UNKEPT PROMISES: A famed housing project, an ‘enclave’, had promised to provide piped water and natural gas to the residents, but 90 per cent of the residents are still waiting for this promise to be fulfilled. Although the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has a different tariff, the real estate tycoon and his ‘managers’ apply a flat rate of Rs28.07 per unit during off-peak hours, and a flat rate of Rs34.39 per unit during peak hours. The relevant authorities should look into the matter.
