30 Pakistanis freed by India return home

THATTA: A batch of 30 Pakistani fishermen and other nationals freed by Indian jail authorities “as a goodwill gesture” arrived at Wagah border on Saturday, local leaders of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) informed Dawn.

They said that eight of the freed persons belonged to the Sujawal and Thatta districts. The fishermen had been arrested on different dates and later jailed by the Indian authorities for crossing over the invisible border between the territorial waters of the two countries.

They would be brought to their native towns by the authorities concerned and welfare organisations after legal formalities, the PFF leaders said. Noor Mohammad Themore of the PFF told this correspondent that 47 fishermen hailing from Thatta and Sujawal districts were still languishing in different Indian jails.
