Pakistani climber evacuated safely from Everest
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani climber Asad Ali Memon — who was stranded on Mount Everest in Nepal — has been evacuated, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Wednesday.
In response to media queries regarding the evacuation of a Pakistani mountain climber stranded at Mount Everest in Nepal, the spokesperson said Mr Memon “has been evacuated and provided medical care. He is physically safe and is currently at a hotel in Lukla, a town near foots (sic) of Everest”.
The Foreign Office said that the climber would be brought home on the first available flight. “Our Embassy in Nepal is in contact with Mr Asad and his handling agency,” the statement said. Earlier on Tuesday, the climber had requested Pakistan’s embassy in Nepal to make arrangements for his airlift to Kathmandu. He had successfully summited the world’s highest mountain on Friday, but dislocated his hand during the descent.
