Hockey: Three-goal Shabbir helps SSGC overwhelm HEC
KARACHI, Jan 23: PTCL reached All-Pakistan departmental hockey championship quarterfinals after a 3-1 victory over KESC at Hockey Club of Pakistan on Monday.
Though KESC took fine start with a ninth-minute goal through Irfan Khan, they caved in later as PTCL equalised in the 15th minute with an Aqeel Hussain strike.
Waqas Akbar put PTCL ahead with a 49th-minute effort, while Shahzad Nasir completed the scoring in the 58th minute.
Manzoorul Hassan’s match-winner gave Railways full points after a 3-2 win over Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF).
POF started with a Naseer Ahmad goal in the fifth minute only to see Railways equalise through Nadeem Jr two minutes later. Railways grabbed the lead when Ahmad came into action in the 20th minute.
The match took another turn when POF put the game on an even keel, Naseer Baig slamming home three minutes into second session.
Manzoor slotted home the winner in the 66th minute to give Railways their first win.
Rizwanul Haq struck twice to help Pakistan Navy force a 3-3 draw with Police who crashed out of the tournament after playing their last pool game.
It was policemen who opened the scoring with a Farzand Ali goal in the 11th minute which was levelled by Rizwan in the 14th minute.
The sailors went ahead two minutes before breather when Mohammad Iqbal converted a penalty stroke. Policemen were reduced to ten players when Mansoor Abbas was yellow carded in the 49th minute.
Rizwan got his second in the 57th minute to make it 3-1. Police bounced back to reduce the margin with a Tariq Mahmood penalty stroke in the 61st minute and then equalised through Niaz Ahmad three minutes before time only to earn a point which did not help them move ahead.
Three-goal Shabbir Ahmad guided Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to a thumping 11-0 triumph over Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Former Pakistan penalty corner expert Sohail Abbas opened the account for SSGC with a fifth-minute conversion, Ishtiaq Mobeen was on target in the 12th minute and Shabbir found the cage in the 22nd minute.
Ishtiaq netted his second two minutes later, while Abbas Haider made it 5-0 in the 37th minute. Sohail converted another short corner in the 43rd minute before Aqeel Khan netted the seventh.
Yet there was no respite for hapless HEC as SSGC’s Aqeel scored his double three minutes later and Jawaid Mazhar sounded the backboards barely after 60 seconds. Shabbir hammered home two more in the 55th and 66th minutes to finish off the thrashing.
Aqeel got temporary suspension in the 59th minute.
