Kohat traders threaten protest over power, gas outages

KOHAT: The grand businessmen alliance on Tuesday set a three-day deadline for the administration to ensure smooth water, electricity and gas supply and remove garbage from bazaars or the traders would take to the streets.

Talking to reporters here, president of the alliance Haji Abid Khan, along with representatives of other bazaar unions said the traders and residents had become fed up with reminding the district administration about their grievances, and now they would take to the streets if their demands were not met within the given date.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of the Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC), Mr Abid demanded its dissolution and transferring its responsibilities back to the tehsil municipal administration.

He claimed that WSSC was created to adjust bureaucrats, who were drawing huge salaries from Rs300,000 to Rs400,000 per month, but the lower-level employees were not even paid salaries on time.

The traders’ leaders appealed to the provincial caretaker government and governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take concrete steps for mitigating grievances of the Kohat residents, particularly traders.
