IHC issues notice to Islamabad IG over Shehryar Afridi’s re-arrest

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the inspector general of police, Islamabad, in response to a contempt plea regarding the re-arrest of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi, which was made despite court orders prohibiting such action.

Afridi was re-arrested shortly after his release from a prison in Rawalpindi on May 30.

During the hearing, the court raised questions regarding the state counsel’s failure to present Afridi before the court. The court instructed the counsel to provide a response on this matter by tomorrow.

Afridi’s counsel Sher Afzal Marwat told the court that his client had been kept in a “death cell”.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Zahir also expressed concern regarding court orders not being complied with.

“This is a contempt of court case and its next hearing will take place tomorrow,” the judge remarked.
