Flawed proposal

THERE have been reports about a proposal being considered by the Sindh government to merge all the existing public-sector institutions of higher education in Larkana and convert them into a single university.

However, the individual campuses are meant for providing quality education with specialised facilities, faculty and resources of their own. Integrating all the campuses and bringing them under one roof may pose challenges of quality education and large administration, resulting in bureaucratic delays in decision-making and logistical challenges in providing adequate resources.

Instead of establishing an umbrella university, a better solution would be to invest in the upgradation of the existing facilities.

All the current campuses should be equipped with resources in terms of equipment, faculty, facilities and management. The investment would result in fruitful outcomes in the years ahead.
