Police refused remand of Dr Yasmin

LAHORE: An antiterrorism court (ATC) on Monday denied Gulberg police further physical remand of PTI Punjab president Dr Yasmin Rashid in a case of Askari Tower attack during May 9 riots.

The police produced the PTI leader before the court on the expiry of her two-day physical remand.

The investigating officer asked the court to extend her physical remand for seven days as probe into the attack was yet to be completed.

ATC Judge Abher Gul Khan turned down the police request and sent Dr Rashid to jail on judicial remand till June 25.

The judge directed the investigating officer to submit challan within the stipulated time.

Separately, the judge denied Sarwar Road police further physical remand of 12 women suspects in the Jinnah House attack case and sent them to jail on judicial remand.

An antiterrorism court on Monday sought further arguments on the post-arrest bail petitions of Yasmin Rashid and 33 other suspects in the Shadman police station attack case.

Advocate Mian Tabbasum argued on behalf of Dr Rashid and denied the charges against her. The counsel said the petitioner was not even present at the alleged occurrence but the police implicated her in the case with mala fide intention.

He said the petitioner was an elderly person and could not be kept behind bars for an indefinite period. Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar adjourned the hearing till June 14.
