POLICE CORRUPTION

According to a recent report, SHOs in Islamabad police stations have been asked to declare their assets. This is a good concept and will surely encourage accountability and transparency in the system. I wonder, however, why the elite Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers have not been covered by such plans. Why should just the people working at lower ranks be targeted? Accountability should be a uniform process under all circumstances.

BUS ROUTES: The Sindh government took a decent initiative with Red Line and Pink Line bus services, which have been able to provide much-needed relief to the commuters in Karachi. However, some routes need to be rescheduled. More buses, for instance, are needed on routes touching Numaish and Ibrahim Hyderi during the morning and afternoon hours as there are a number of educational institutions in the two vicinities. Also, a new route is needed on Shahrah-i-Pakistan from Sohrab Goth to Tower.

ADMISSION TESTS: The venue for conducting law admission test (LAT) has been shifted from Larkana to Sukkur. Hundreds of students from Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, and other areas are facing serious

difficulties in making their way to the venue. They are forced to travel distances up to 85km just to get to venue, and that too by 8.30am. The authorities should revisit the decision.

TRAFFIC RULES: Traffic rules are generally neither enforced nor followed anywhere in Karachi. We can see a good number of people violating the rules on the roads. Whether big or small, all sorts of vehicles indulge in such practices. The city administration and traffic police are clearly at fault.
