Citizens working five days a week to get fewer Eid holidays
ISLAMABAD: The government has announced two separate holiday schedules for Eidul Azha — one with three for citizens working six days a week and another with two holidays for those enjoying a five-day working week.
The decision was taken after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday rejected a summary for four public holidays on the festival.
Sources said the cabinet division had proposed four public holidays — from June 27 to 30 — and sent a summary to the PM.
However, the cabinet division said in a notification that the prime minister had instead approved holidays on June 29 and 30 (Thursday and Friday) for the offices observing five working days in a week, and from June 29 to July 1 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) for offices with six working days.
On Tuesday, the SBP also announced public holidays on June 29 and 30 for Eidul Azha.
