Desecration of Holy Quran protested
KOHAT/PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and Aalmi Khatm-i-Nabuwat held protest rallies in Kohat against the ghastly act of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The rallies were held in Lachi tehsil and in front of the Kohat Press Club.
The protesters demanded the expulsion of the Swedish ambassador from Pakistan, and severing diplomatic relations with the country.
They said that the Swedish government should crack down on elements involved in such dastardly acts because it was not the first time that the sentiments of Muslims had been hurt.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council announced a province-wide strike on Tuesday (today) against the desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden and demanded of the federal government to sever diplomatic ties with Sweden and also call back its ambassador from the country.
On the call of the bar council, a black day was also observed by the lawyers’ community in the province as they wore black armbands and also held meetings in barrooms to condemn the incident.
In a joint statement issued by the KPBC’s vice-chairman Zar Badshah Khan and its executive committee chairman Syed Mubashir Shah, they said to condemn the incident, lawyers would observe a boycott of courts in the province.
They asked the bar associations to also hold protest rallies.
