Progress made in FC attack probe: KP IGP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Akhtar Hayat has said that some progress has been made in the investigations into the Tuesday’s suicide attack on the Frontier Corps in the provincial capital and the details will soon be shared with the media.

The IGP was talking to media persons during his visit to Hayatabad Medical Complex here on Thursday to inquire after the health of the police personnel who had sustained injuries in a militant attack on the tehsil office in Bara, Khyber district.

“The FC was attacked and then the police post. This [the attack on tehsil compound in Bara] is the third attack,” Mr Hayat told journalists. He said two militants tried to attack the police station inside the tehsil compound, which was foiled.

He said a militant tried to enter the compound from the main gate and the other one from the back side, adding that the police outside the police station opened fire at the militant.

The wounded militant, Mr Hayat said, exploded himself after he was stopped from entering the police station, adding that the police saved the compound since they had received intelligence on a possible attack, which was why they were on high alert.
