Flood risk: admin given maps of vulnerable villages
LAHORE: The Flood Risk Assessment Unit of the Punjab Irrigation Department has provided the maps indicating the vulnerable villages located between Jinnah Barrage and Guddu Barrage to the administrations of all relevant districts and other flood response institutions in view of the risk of flooding in the Indus.
Irrigation Secretary Dr Wasif Khurshid told reporters here on Tuesday that with the help of these maps, all relevant institutions could plan better in case of floods and focus on potential flood areas if necessary.
In these maps prepared by the unit, all the towns and villages along the Indus from Jinnah Barrage to Guddu had been pinpointed; which villages and town would be hit in case of low, medium and high level floods.
The irrigation secretary said he was visiting the entire province to personally assess the flood situation. He said he had visited all the sensitive places of the Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab from Kasur and Marala to Panjand as teams of all canal divisions are ready to deal with any flood situation.
Dr Wasif said in the coming days, he would also inspect different places of flood drains in Narowal and Shakargarh areas. He said the department’s machinery division and field teams were monitoring the sensitive places round the clock and were in touch with the district administration in this regard.
