Ahmadi place of worship vandalised in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony
KARACHI: A place of worship of the Ahmadi community was vandalised by unknown persons in Shah Faisal Colony on Tuesday.
Korangi-SSP Tariq Nawaz told Dawn that some four persons damaged the minarets of the worship place on Drigh Road within the remit of the Shah Faisal Colony police station on Monday.
He said that a representative of the community, identified as Bilal, filed an application regarding vandalism on Tuesday. He informed the police that he would lodge a proper FIR after consulting community elders.
Ahmadi community spokesperson Amir Mehmood said that the worship place — Baitul Mubarik — in the Drigh Road area existed since partition.
He said around one dozen persons forcibly entered the place of worship at around 3:45pm on Monday, destroyed the minarets with hammers and wrote “hateful graffiti on the walls” and fled.
He said it was the third attack on the places of worship of the Ahmadi community in the metropolis.
Mr Mehmood recalled that a few months ago, two places of their worship in Saddar and Martin Quarters were vandalised in a similar manner.
“The government has utterly failed to provide security to Ahmadi places of worship,” he said.
