NEGLECTED KARACHI

NEGLECTED KARACHI: My beautiful Karachi is a victim of sheer neglect from both the provincial and federal governments. It is as if nobody is willing to own the city. The ever-deteriorating law and order situation in the city is a big question mark on the performance of law enforcement agencies. No one takes notice of the theft of iron railings on pavements and on pedestrian bridges. There needs to be a serious crackdown on the drug addicts who have been plundering the city for years. Karachi deserves better.

RECHARGING HANA LAKE: The construction work on the canal which is the source of recharging Hana Lake in Quetta has been in a limbo for a long time. The canal, running 100-300 feet in length, is in an urgent need of the attention of the relevant authorities. Currently, millions of gallons of water are getting wasted. It is high time the construction work of this crucial canal was undertaken and completed briskly.

BOOK READING: It initially sounded like a dark, rather misplaced prophecy, but the way things have evolved, we are truly nearing the end of the book reading culture. According to a recent survey, 75 per cent of students do not read books. Internet browsing seems to have replaced book reading habit, especially among the young in Pakistan. With a plethora of activities and websites at their disposal, students tend to keep their distance with the books. We need to promote book reading among our youth.

MESSY STREETS: Garbage and overflowing sewage seem to be the main features of roads, streets and lanes across Rohri. The officials of the local municipal corporation behave as if they are not local residents. It is getting increasingly difficult to even breathe properly. The municipal authorities need to wake up and do what they are supposed to do.
