Bilawal unveils Benazir’s wax statue in Dubai
KARACHI: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Sunday unveiled the wax figure of Benazir Bhutto at Madame Tussauds in Dubai.
The minister who arrived in the UAE on a one-day official visit attended a ceremony to unveil the statue, APP reported.
According to Gulf News, the wax figure of Ms Bhutto was the first of a Pakistani personality at the museum’s Dubai location. It features her in a green shalwar kameez and white dupatta, the outfit she wore when she was sworn in as the first woman prime minister of Pakistan on December 2, 1988.
At the ceremony, Mr Bhutto-Zardari said his mother was a ‘symbol of democracy, freedom and equal rights for women across the world’. “We have a close attachment to this city and country. We are immensely grateful that the memory of our mother, Benazir Bhutto, is being honoured here in the form of this wax statue.”
He earlier offered condolences to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed on the demise of his brother.
Mr Bhutto-Zardari also met his UAE counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and discussed the “entire spectrum of bilateral relations”.
Separately, Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir met the UAE president and offered condolences.
