Robbers kill labourer on resistance in Swabi

SWABI: Two unidentified robbers killed a labourer hailing from Sargodha district of Punjab when he resisted their bid to snatch his mobile phone in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate here on Sunday night, the police said.

The incident occurred on the Road No 9 near the Gadoon Industrial Estate police station.

Coworkers of the deceased, Abbas, told Dawn what he was on his way to his accommodation after work when two motorcyclists appeared on the deserted road and stopped him at gunpoint.

The robbers opened fire on the labourer when he resisted their bid to snatch his mobile, killing him on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Topi, for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) leaders in a statement asked the police to trace the killers without delay.

Separately, a man was killed and another injured when their rivals opened fire on them in the Swabi city.

Swabi city police station SHO Ajab Durrani said the cause of the incident was an old enmity. He identified the deceased as Saeedur Rehman and injured as Imran Khan.

The injured was taken to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, and the body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

Asad Khan, one of the accused, arrested along with a pistol and motorcycle.

CONDEMNED: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl on Monday condemned the blast at the party’s convention in Bajaur tribal district on Sunday, which killed 54 people and injured scores of others.

Talking to mediapersons, Maulana Fazal Ali, central naib emir of the party, demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

He said the party would continue its peaceful political struggle.

Meanwhile, the communications and works department on Monday cleared the roads of landslides in Gadoon Amazai mountainous region.
