48 PTI workers held for protesting Imran’s arrest

LAHORE: Four dozen Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers were detained by police on Saturday for protesting the arrest of former prime minister and party chairman Imran Khan.

After the Islamabad trial court verdict in the Toshakhana case, Punjab police moved swiftly, reached Mr Khan’s Zaman Park house in Lahore and took him into custody.

Mr Khan was later shifted to Islamabad from where he was taken to the Attock jail.

The police first arrested a dozen workers who tried to stop it from entering Khan’s residence and then drove the PTI leader away.

Later the police arrested the PTI workers who were planning to block different roads in protest against the arrest.

A city police spokesperson told Dawn that the police had taken 48 PTI workers into custody from different areas of the Civil Lines division.

He said the workers were arrested for trying to create a law and order situation.
