Two suspected gangsters gunned down in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: Two suspected gangsters were shot dead in an alleged encounter in Pak Colony, police said on Sunday.

Area SHO Abdul Khaliq Ansari said that a police team, acting on a tip-off regarding presence of gangsters in the area, launched a search operation and cordoned off Ayesha Manzil Street located near Orangi Nullah in the small hours of Sunday morning.

He said that the gangsters started firing on the policemen and they returned fire, killing two suspects, later identified as Babu Hanif, 21, and Kabeer, 23.

During the search operation, another suspect, identified as Mohammed Javed, was also arrested.

The bodies were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to complete medico-legal formalities.

The police claimed to have recovered two 9mm pistols from the custody of the slain suspects.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased persons told the media that they were innocent and the police arrested and killed them in a fake encounter. They urged the chief minister and inspector general of police to hold an impartial inquiry into the incident and provide justice to them.

‘Tortured’ body found

A man was found murdered in the Lyari area on Sunday, police said.

The Kalakot police said that the body of an unidentified man was recovered from a house near Khaddo Lane, Noor Mohammed Village. The body bore marks of torture.

The police shifted the corpse to the CHK for a post-mortem examination.
