ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Aamer Farooq on Wednesday urged the bar association to support the bench in swift disposal of cases.

Addressing lawyers during the inaugural ceremony of the recently-built bar room and cafeteria of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Bar Association, Chief Justice Farooq said after the smooth shifting of the IHC fromG-10 to the Constitution Avenue and subsequent shifting of district courts from F-8 Markaz to the state-of-the-art District Courts Complex, his objective was now to clear backlog of cases.

At present, there are around 17,000 cases pending with the IHC while the pendency of the sessions courts is 40,000.

Justice Farooq said litigants deserved speedy disposal of their cases since all facilities in the IHC and the sessions courts had been upgraded.

He, however, said the bench could not expedite disposal of cases unilaterally and without the active cooperation of the bar. He therefore urged the bar to play its role to redress the grievances of common litigants.

Earlier, the IHC bar president as well as other office-bearers welcomed Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Sardar Arbab Mohammad Tahir, Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, registrar IHC Sardar Tahir Sabir and Secretary to the Chief Justice Noor Mohammad Mirza.

The IHCBA is currently operating in makeshift prefabricated structure while a multi-storey building adjacent to the high court building for the offices of the bar room, cafeteria and other activities of the bar is under construction.
