Bajaur youth body postpones sit-in
BAJAUR: The Bajaur Youth Association on Friday announced to postpone its peace sit-in scheduled for August 14 on the request of All Bajaur Peace Action Committee to avoid any unpleasant situation on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The association’s convener Sayed Sadiq Akbar made the announcement while talking to reporters at the Bajaur Press Club.
Flanked by the action committee members, Mr Akbar that the sit-in was planned in Khar Bazaar, but the youths’ body postponed it on the request of elders during a meeting on Thursday.
“Out of respect for All Bajaur Peace Action Committee members, who have been struggling for protection of the hard-earned peace in the district, our organisation has decided to delay the planned sit-in for the time being,” said Mr Akbar.
He, however, said the sit-in would be held soon and a large number of people would participate in it.
On the occasion, action committee members, including Haji Sardar Khan, Shah Naseer Khan, Malik Gul Kareem Khan and Aurangzeb Khan also spoke, saying Bajaur’s security environment was not favourable to hold a public gathering following the July 30 tragic suicide blast at a convention of JUI-F, which had left 64 people dead and wounded 122 others. Hence, they said action committee requested the Bajaur Youth Association to postpone its sit-in.
They thanked the youth body for postponing their event in the larger public interest.
