Elahi arrested soon after release from Adiala jail
RAWALPINDI: Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau shortly after he was released from Adiala jail on Monday.
According to sources, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s central president was released upon completion of his detention period. But as soon as he walked out of Adiala jail’s gate, he was taken into custody by a NAB team, headed by Deputy Director Najamul Hassan. The team consisted of personnel from the bureau’s Rawalpindi and Lahore zones.
In reply to a question about reasons for his fresh imprisonment, Mr Elahi quipped: “Let them fulfil their desire.”
Later, police obtained a one-day transitory remand of the PTI leader from a court in Rawalpindi.
