LHC orders production of Hassaan Niazi

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has sought replies from the Punjab government and police on a habeas corpus petition challenging alleged illegal detention of Barrister Hassaan Khan Niazi, nephew of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad also directed a law officer to submit replies on behalf of the respondents on Friday (today) and also produce the alleged detainee if he was in the detention of the police.

Hafeezullah Khan Niazi, the father of the lawyer, filed the petition pleading that the police kept his son in illegal detention. He asked the court to get his son recovered from the alleged unlawful detention of the police and set him at liberty.

Barrister Niazi was arrested in Abbottabad a couple of days ago as he had gone into hiding after the May 9 riots. He was initially transferred into the custody of Quetta police and later handed over to Rawalpindi police.

The police have booked him in cases including the events of May 9 and attack on Jinnah House.
